Once a week, a read aloud and accountable talk,
twice a week Club,

2x week IR

Note: Clubs are assigned but can stay together for the entire year if they work well together
  • Launch -
  • Day 1 - Rd aloud (a myth/legend/short story/poem/picture book),
  • Day 2 - Letter writing - Group Requests
  • Day 3 - Shopping
  • Day 4 - IR (First One) with Mini-lesson (ThINK ALOUD)
  • Day 5 - IR with a Writing to Learn mini-lesson


NOTE: CONFER WITH EACH STUDENT 1-2X EACH UNIT, AND KEEP A LOG OF CONFERENCE. MAY CONFER WITH GROUPS DURING CLUB OR BOOK CLUBS IF GROUPED ACCORDINGLY.

2. Pattern/Structure of the Unit: (After Launch/1st Week) Weeks 2-6:
- Every Tuesday is a Read Aloud and Accountable Talk
- Every Thursday is a Club Meeting
- Every Wednesday and Friday is Independent Reading time\

3. DAYS (TO DO’S)
  • Club = Talk Lesson with Newsprint
  • IR days = In the Print lesson - Findings.com
  • RA/AT = Conversation/discussion
  • Assessment = Reflection Writing with a Rubric (use 6+1+iB) and have them self-assess
  • Celebrations/Parent Sharing days or presentations
  • Parent Kid book clubs
